BIO:
Gabrielle Bright is a Michigan-native television writer. She is a proud graduate of Howard University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Television and Film and graduated summa cum laude.
As someone who grew up in a predominantly white area and education system, Gabrielle’s greatest career aspiration is to provide more outlets for other Black writers, especially female writers. She has worked to connect with writers from various walks of life during her time both at Howard and UCLA, in order to form a network that is both supportive and prosperous.
Her writing focuses primarily on showcasing human connection in unique ways. Whether it is through the dark lens of a crime drama or the vibrant, exciting world of fantasy, Gabrielle believes that love can and should exist in every corner of fiction. Many of her works also focus on LGBTQ+ stories, as Gabrielle hopes to bring about a larger variety of stories for queer audiences. She primarily focuses on hour-long dramas and dramedies.
Outside of writing, Gabrielle has a passion for music and travel. She hopes to be able to connect with cultures from around the world, and has a special interest in the Korean and Japanese entertainment industries. Another career goal of hers is to work on an international film or television series. If she’s not sitting in front of a script, you’ll likely find Gabrielle at a concert or on a trip.
During her time at UCLA, Gabrielle has grown to value collaboration. She hopes to continue to work alongside talented writers, join writers’ rooms, and eventually become a showrunner. Gabrielle has also developed an interest in the processes of production and development since coming to UCLA. She hopes to expand her career into those areas in the future, supporting Black creators and getting more projects made by writers of color.
